Characters can be flawed on purpose. Hazel Grace’s job was not to be a poster child for cancer and disability. She was supposed to be viewed as real. Hazel Grace was not motivational porn; she had thoughts and ideas that readers may or may not agree with and that doesn’t make her a bad character.
